Good Faith Estimate (GFE) for Health Care Services
As of January 1, 2022, the "No Surprises Act" requires practitioners to provide a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) for out-of-network care. This estimate outlines the expected costs of therapy services to help clients make informed decisions about their care. Below is a detailed explanation of what the GFE includes and what it means for you.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
The Good Faith Estimate provides a breakdown of the reasonably expected costs for your therapy services, based on the information available at the time of the estimate. While it aims to give you a clear picture of your potential financial responsibilities, please note:
The GFE does not include unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment.
If changes to your treatment plan occur that result in additional costs, you will be provided with an updated Good Faith Estimate.
If your bill exceeds the GFE and you were not informed of changes, you have the right to dispute (appeal) the charges under federal law.
Who Does This Apply To?
The Good Faith Estimate applies to clients who:
Are not enrolled in a health plan, coverage, or federal health care program.
Are not submitting claims to their health insurance plan, including out-of-network benefits (e.g., superbills for reimbursement).
Note: The GFE does not currently apply to clients using insurance benefits.
Common Therapy Services, Duration, & Cost
Initial Therapy Intake 90791 ~90 minutes $135
Ongoing Therapy (standard) 90834 ~50 minutes $90
Couples/Family Counseling 90847 ~60 minutes $115
Factors Affecting Your Therapy Journey
Therapy is a personal and unique experience. The frequency and duration of your sessions will depend on:
Your schedule and life circumstances.
Therapist availability.
The complexity and nature of the challenges you are addressing.
Your financial situation and personal goals.
You and your therapist will regularly evaluate your progress and determine when you’ve achieved your goals and are ready for discharge.
Additional Information
Where Services Are Delivered:
We currently offer telehealth. There is no difference in pricing for in-person or virtual therapy. However, in-person availability may be subject to change based on public health guidance. This GFE Is Not a Contract:
The Good Faith Estimate is not a binding contract and does not obligate you to obtain the outlined services. Therapy is always a collaborative, voluntary process, and either party may end the therapeutic relationship at any time.
Your Rights Under the No Surprises Act
Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act (PHSA):
You have the right to request a Good Faith Estimate for expected charges at the time of scheduling services or upon request.
You have the right to dispute a bill if it exceeds the estimate and you were not informed of changes.
For questions or concerns about your GFE, feel free to contact us. We’re here to provide clarity and support as you begin or continue your therapy journey.
